I'm an outgoing person, and I've always been interested in healthcare. At first I considered medical school, but after volunteering as a candy striper in a local hospital, I realized that nursing would give me more responsibility in overall patient care - and that was what I wanted. The first two years of nursing school were tough academically. Now that I'm into the clinical portion of nursing school, it feels great because I get to apply what I learned those first two years. My professors prepared me for this experience, and now I feel very comfortable in the healthcare setting. I've decided to become an emergency room or operating room nurse; I want to start my career working in a fast-paced environment where I can help save lives. Once I graduate, I know I will be able to find a job that satisfies my personal and professional goals. I also want to travel around the country, and nursing can take me there. If I get restless, I can always move to a different location, learn a different specialty area, or go back to school to get an advanced degree. It's hard to predict exactly how my future will unfold, but one thing I know for sure - I won't regret having gone to nursing school.
