I was suppressed, tired of the paper shuffling, nine-to-five business routine. I discovered what was missing with my job satisfaction, which was a lack of interpersonal communication with others and, I decided to become a nurse. I started as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital ER for three and a half years. There I saw “life in the ER” and was amazed at the competence, dedication, and leadership of the health care staff. I was very excited because I knew I had made the best career choice of my life! I was particularly inspired by one of my colleagues—not only was she competent, but I was moved by her commitment and dedication to her clients. I was determined to further develop my skills and be able to provide that same outstanding level of care and service. I became a registered nurse in 1999 through the Muhlenberg School of Nursing, and will graduate from Kean University with my BSN in 2004. As I continue to grow in this profession, I am finding that Nursing provides an opportunity for me to be who I am for others. Nursing is one of the most rewarding professions on the planet! I get to be myself. My clients are touched and inspired by my compassion and commitment to them and I am left fulfilled, knowing that I make a difference.
