RN,MSN,CCRN,ACNP/Acute Care Nurse Practitioner NTICU

When I was a child, my father was a paramedic. I used to look up to the way that he helped people in our community. He became the springboard that sent me into the field of nursing.

I have been a nurse now for six years. I began my career in MICU as bedside nurse with an associate’s degree. After a few years, my passion for nursing grew. I began precepting new graduates, leading my unit as a charge nurse, and lecturing for area universities. At the insistence of a physician friend and colleague, I started the road to furthering my education. I received my bachelor’s degree in nursing, and went on to a master's program in nursing that led to certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Currently, I work as an Acute Care NP, in a neuro-trauma intensive care, treating patients with head trauma and other neurologic emergencies.

What I love most about nursing as a career is its flexibility. One day you can work as a labor and delivery nurse, and then decide a year later to work in ER. A nurse need never get bored. What I love most about being a nurse is my ability to help others in my community. When I see a patient or his family member smile and say thank you, it lights up my day.
