Kamelia M.

Shreveport, LA
RN; Primary Care Clinic

I have always liked helping people and wanted a job that would allow me to do just that, so I became a nurse. I have been a nurse for ten years. The first eight years I was an LPN and decided to return to nursing school and become a registered nurse. My nursing background consists of medical-surgical, emergency room and primary care nursing. I currently work at a Veterans Affairs (VA) facility, and I love helping Veterans. I am also one of the instructors for a diabetes self-management education group at my VA facility. It brings me great joy knowing that I can help diabetics help themselves. If I had to do it all over again I would choose the same career. I also love the flexibility that nursing allows me, which is why I also enjoy working at a local Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) facility.

I have been a nurse for over 20 years now. For me, nursing has always been more of a “calling” than a career. Nursing has provided a way for me to live out my faith on a daily basis....
