Abstract
The Visiting Nurse Service of New York Utilizes Smart Phones in New Diabetes Care Management Program for Adolescents
The Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY) is utilizing smart phones in a ground-breaking diabetes management program designed especially for adolescents. To date, 23 adolescents from Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, ages 11 to 17, have an application on their smart phones that allows them to enter their blood glucose levels and the amount of insulin they are taking, so the information can be used as an educational tool and to monitor their diabetes. The application, created by WellDoc Inc., provided free of charge through the program, also allows them to input how they are feeling and what they are eating on a daily basis.
